Safe Buddy Pouch

About us

We made this for our son

Our oldest is 11. He was diagnosed with autism at age two, and he still wears diapers at night. Like so many families, we have tried everything we could think of to keep him secure—and we still see the news stories of children who leave home and are found miles away. We hope the simple solution that works for our son can help other families too.

SAFE BUDDYdisposable

Our story

Why a disposable pouch on a diaper

He will not wear a necklace or a wrist tracker. If a tracker goes in a pocket, it becomes a toy. And we did not want anything permanently stitched into clothing—or tucked into something he could pull off and leave behind.

So we make these pouches in house: soft, adhesive sleeves you stick to the outside of a diaper, slide a small GPS tracker into, and throw away with the dirty diaper. The padding on the diaper masks how the tracker feels, so he is less likely to notice it and try to rip it off.

For us, it has been the easiest way to keep an eye on our child while we sleep. Trackers are sold separately. The pouch is just the disposable buddy that holds one in place for that wear.

What we learned

Designed around what would not work

  • Made for kids who refuse the usual gear

Necklaces and wristbands come off. A tracker in a pocket turns into a toy. Stitching something into clothing is permanent and easy to remove. We needed a place he would leave alone.

  • The diaper does the hiding

Padding on a nighttime diaper softens the feel of a small tracker so it is less likely to get ripped off. Stick the pouch on the outer shell, slide the tracker in, and leave it for the night.

  • Simple enough for every change

We make these pouches in house. Peel, stick, seat the tracker, then toss the pouch with the dirty diaper. Nothing to wash. Nothing to sew in. Nothing left behind for morning.
